چکیده

We study anomalous dissipation in hydrodynamic turbulence the context of passive scalars. Our main result produces an incompressible $$C^\infty ([0,T)\times {\mathbb {T}}^d)\cap L^1([0,T]; C^{1-}({\mathbb {T}}^d))$$ velocity field which explicitly exhibits dissipation. As a consequence, this example also shows non-uniqueness solutions to transport equation with $$L^1([0,T]; drift, is smooth except at one point time. give sufficient condition for based on inviscid becoming singular controlled way. Finally, we discuss connections Obukhov-Corrsin monofractal theory scalar along other potential applications.

Anomalous scaling of the passive scalar.

We establish anomalous inertial range scaling of structure functions for a model of advection of a passive scalar by a random velocity field. The velocity statistics is taken gaussian with decorrelation in time and velocity differences scaling as |x|κ/2 in space, with 0 ≤ κ < 2. The scalar is driven by a gaussian forcing acting on spatial scale L and decorrelated in time. The structure function...

Interacting SQG Vortices and Passive Scalar Transport

The surface quasi-geostrophic (SQG) equations are a model for low-Rossby number geophysical flows in which the dynamics are governed by potential temperature dynamics on the boundary. The model can be used to explore the effect on transport of the transition from two-dimensional to three-dimensional mesoscale geophysical flows. On an f -plane with linear stratification, we examine the dynamics ...

Anomalous scaling for a passive scalar near the Batchelor limit

A class of phenomenological Hopf equations describing mixing of a passive scalar by random flow close to the Batchelor limit ~i.e., advection by random strain and vorticity! is analyzed. In the Batchelor limit multipoint correlators of the scalar are constructed explicitly by exploiting the SL (N ,R) symmetry of the Hopf operator. Hopf equations close to this ‘‘integrable’’ limit are solved via...

Direct numerical simulation of passive scalar transport in transverse jets

Direct numerical simulation is used to study passive scalar transport and mixing in a round turbulent jet, in a laminar crossflow. The ratio of the jet velocity to that of the crossflow is 5.7, the Schmidt number of the scalar is 1.49, and the jet-exit Reynolds number is 5000. The scalar field is used to compute entrainment of the crossflow fluid by the jet. It is shown that the bulk of this en...
